State of the University Address
On December 15, the faculty, staff, and student listserv received notice of a State of the University address by President Tom Mitzel, to be delivered on Tuesday, Janury 3, 1:00-4:00 P.M., in the Student Center ballroom.
After the president's address to faculty, staff, students, and the community, there will be presentations on the budget as well as DSU's recent agreement with Royall & Company to provide us with recruitment and admissions services.
The DSU Heritage Foundation will sponsor a social following the meeting.
Psychology Major to Deliver Commencement Address
One of the two student speakers at today's commencement ceremony will be Jalyn McGill, a double major in music and psychology. Take a moment to read more about her on DSU's Tumblr site.
Free Online Seminars for Those of Us Who Train Future Teachers
DSU is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) and its state affiliate NDACTE. Both the national and state groups serve as advocates for our university's Teacher Education Program and offer resources regarding best practices in teacher training, laws affecting teacher preparation, accreditation, etc.
AACTE offers six free online "professional seminars" for people involved in teacher preparation. Two of those are starting soon: "Designing Assessments to Measure Student Outcomes" in January and "Using Data to Improve Student Outcomes" in February.
Read more about them here. If you'd like to sign up for either of these free online seminars, then look for the "Learn more" hyperlinks within that ^ Web page.
I signed up for both, and it was quick and easy.
In-House Training on Chalk & Wire, Portfolios, and Signature Assessments
On December 14, I sent an e-mail announcement of training sessions that Chris McCoy and I will offer in January prior to the start of the new semester.
If you would like to learn more about serving on portfolio teams, teaching courses with signature assessments or co-requisite field experiences, or using Chalk & Wire, then please notify me of which session you intend to attend:
